About the Conference

ACLing 2018 is the fourth  edition of  the Arabic Computational Linguistics series (ACLing). The conference  aims to bring together leading academicians, scientists, researchers and practitioners from all over the world to exchange new ideas and the latest results in Arabic Computational Linguistics and NLP. This  field has become increasingly important, as more and more Arabic information is now available through the Web, Social Media and Intranet services.  The scope of the conference encompasses the theory and practice of all aspects of Arabic Computational Linguistics in text, audio, image, and video. Arabic is the most prominent member of the Semitic family (and its dialects) which includes many languages and dialects spoken by a large number of native speakers (around 300 million). Arabic has a rich and productive pattern-based morphology and syntactic constructions. However, the Arabic language as a whole is still understudied and many of its computational systems are underdeveloped. The British University in Dubai has been chosen to organize and host ACLing2018 conference because it has a mission for establishing itself as a provider of world class scholarship, education and research.

 Why ACLing Conference Series?

  • Good publication with Standard Citation Impact. ACLing 2018 is the fourth edition of the ACLing conference series. For the first and second editions, the conference was co-located with the CICLing conference, which is highly reputed and recognized by the computational linguistics research community. Over the past three years the conference has been quite successful and it is expected that ACLing 2018 will follow in  same footsteps and become a mature venue of the Arabic Computational Linguistics.  All accepted papers in ACLing 2018 will be published in Procedia Computer Science (ISSN: 1877-0509) by ELSEVIER, as a peer-reviewed or refereed journal. Procedia Computer Science is a prestigious journal highly valued in many countries for university promotion. As for standard for measuring Citation Impact, ACLing (Procedia in Computer Science) proceedings is indexed in Scopus (See Why Scopus?), the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, i.e. scientific journals, books and conference proceedings, where you can see also the CiteScore rank and compare with other peer-reviewed literature in the Computer Science field). Nevertheless, Procedia Computer Science is ranked by SJR .
  • Procedia is a journal and the conference proceedings is an issue. Elsevier shall produce the ACLing2018 Proceedings as a separate issue in Procedia. All the published manuscripts should be of a high professional level and consistent with the standards as set by Elsevier. Procedia as a journal has an ISSN not ISBN.  Every peer-reviewed research article appearing in Procedia Computer  will have a DOI assigned.
  • Open Access and Fast Publication. Every peer-reviewed research article appearing in Procedia Computer Science, including ACLing2018, will be published open access (i.e. available, online, immediate, free). It appears online on ScienceDirect, within 2 (two) months of acceptance of the final manuscripts. The entire proceeding appears online, as part of Science Direct or any successor/affiliated service, the publisher shall make it available thereon without charge (free) to all users. This means that articles are universally and freely accessible via the internet in perpetuity, in an easily readable format immediately after publication. Authors do not have to pay any extra publication charges for open access. Elsevier will ensure that the Proceedings content will be published and distributed with the appropriate copyright notice in the name of the author(s) or employer.
  • General interest. The conference covers nearly all topics related to Arabic computational linguistics and Arabic NLP. This makes it attractive for people from different areas and leads to vivid and interesting discussions and exchange of opinions. The discussions and presentations can provide opportunities for researchers to share their projects, research works among fellow colleagues who gather from different parts of the world.
  •  Scope for Joint Research Works. The conference endeavor is to connect people from multiple streams in Arabic computational linguistics in order to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas, establish personal contacts with each other so that new joint research works and projects would emerge for promoting their career prospects.
  • Informal interaction & Networking Opportunities. The conference is intended for a rather small group of professionals. This provides for an  informal and friendly atmosphere, more resembling a friendly gathering than an official event. This is a perfect opportunity for senior academics and budding researchers to interact and develop new ideas. Of course, the upcoming conference would help them to receive exceptional feedback, both formal and informal, which is a great boon for them to prepare high quality research papers.
